New Semester with New Opportunities & Challenges

September 30, 2015

Just like in the US during September, new university semesters begin in Zimbabwe. Our ministry in Chinhoyi not only impacts orphans, widows and the poor but it also impacts students at the Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT). We see it as a strategic opportunity to reach future leaders in Zimbabwe among the 3,000 students who come from various parts of the country to study at this university.

Arhur Nhau, the LTLA director in Chinhoyi, leads the LTLA ministry team in our evangelism and discipling efforts with the students. They have been active this past month following up with returning students and meeting new students. Here is Arthur, sharing about two first year students that have become active in the ministry:

"Isheanesu, is a first year student who is a recruiter. He is always looking for friends to invite to our Bible studies. We pray that the vision of multiplying labourers will be clear and that he may continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

"Zviko, is a first year student who really loves the Lord. I am really encouraged by his learner’s attitude as he is always asking questions and he doesn’t miss our discipleship appointments. He lives off campus and recently he lost his phone and laptop to thieves. Please pray that this incident will not discourage him but instead draw him even closer to the Lord."

The photo below shows Arthur leading a Bible study with students at the LTLA Community Center which is located next door to the university. This gives us a great opportunity for impacting the campus. In the near future, instead of meeting outdoors this group will meet in the Life Discipleship Center that is being constructed in the area behind where the students are seated in this photo. Join us in praying that laborers for God's kingdom will be developed through the ministry to college students in Chinhoyi.

Do pray for our construction efforts of the Life Discipleship Center. Sever power outages have really slowed the progress of fabricating and erecting the steel structure. It is typical these days for the power to only be turned on from midnight to 6am, as the country does not have the capability of supplying enough electrical power to meet the daytime demands. The economic situation continues to deteriorate. In the photo below you will see the men working on one of the roof purlines. The footers are ready to be poured with concrete to support the steel columns, roof and walls. Please pray that sufficient electrical power would be supplied to complete the fabricating and erecting of the steel structure. Pray also that the government will make the needed policy changes to bring the country out of the deep poverty they are facing.
